Toyota professor cursed my D3

This is the Ford I had before getting into Disco's. Used to cop a bit of flack about it, but it went everywhere I wanted to go (and has pulled a couple of Toyotas out of sandy creek beds up at Karijini National Park too). ;)

I was out getting firewood recently with the next door neighbour and a couple of his mates. I was pulling the neighbour's tandem trailer with cage, and we had loaded about 2.5 tonnes of cut timber on it.

One of his mates, who was driving a 3 litre Navara with all of about 750kg of timber in the back, asked me "will that Land Rover actually pull that thing" before we left to come home.

Just north of Kambalda, there's a long uphill run with an overtaking lane (used to love spanking Toyotas on the way home on this hill when I worked at St Ives). I was following the Navara when we hit the bottom of the hill - the Navara quickly lost pace and started choofing out a bit of smoke. The look on his face when I pulled out and overtook him up the hill without the Disco even slowing down was one of the reasons I love this car. :D

I got cursed back in pommy land by a "Gypsy" who wanted to sell me a piece of "lucky" heather. She very politely offered it to me , and then when I very politely declined , she got very angry and cursed me. How lovely. I did feel a bit bad as she'd gone to an awful lot of trouble I suspect, picking it from a local park and then wrapping a small piece of foil around it. Fast forward a decade or so - I'm in Egypt looking at a pile of stones and there's a geezer selling carved scarab beetles - I started bartering but couldn't agree a price - and you guessed it - got cursed again. Bugger. Seeing as this was Egypt and not South London - I sought advice from the tour guide who told me that if you already have a curse on you and then get cursed again , the curser takes on the old curse. Beautiful. So all you have to do mate , is get cursed again!

Sometimes the abuse is pretty funny. I remember out the back of Newman on some gravel road to nowhere there was a road gang working on a river crossing; had the the road blocked and lollypop men. We were two Defenders in convoy and tuned into the UHF and heard:

"Bugger me! Look who's coming! It's the Leyland Brothers"

And insult every WA Landy driver has heard; "Didn't anyone tell them RAC won't go past Northam?"

Don't be too hard on the professors and their insults - they've only just learned to walk upright and talk at the same time! :)

I don't worry about it,water off a ducks back to me...


Ahh,love those Hiluxes,just walk over and unlock one of the front hubs.

Does wonders when you are all lined up,ready to get through all the soft stuff and onto the barge on Moreton.:)

A mate of mine had one,we used to do it all the time,sure had some laughs:)

Can't win with the crew in Coen, last year I went through there in a Jeep Wrangler, no issue apparently with the Jeep turns out I was insane for trying to get to the Tip in an unleaded vehicle! Thought about saying hello on my way back but figured why bother, you'll never change their minds.

Only had to tow the Toyota's with me out of trouble twice[emoji6]

What about when you get approached by another D2 owner and they tell you they've had nothing but trouble and they've owned it since new.
They start telling you all the problems and how much it's cost and they'd never buy another one.

They told me a few of the problems and what it had cost. They had always taken it to a stealer who had done just that. I agreed on a few of their problems and explained how I had fixed it myself cheaper. They complained about the design of the door latches being outside the door seals so the latches had filled with dirt and on some occasions they had to climb over their luggage to open the rear door as the outside handle wouldn't work. How the rear door seal was so bad they had a sheet to cover their luggage in the rear because so much dust came in.

It wouldn't surprise me if their oil pump bolt fell out before they got home.

My problem was I could only agree with them about the problems but I had a mate buy a 100 series cruiser that was the same year model, with the same number of Km, he only bought his 3 months after I bought the D2. He paid $33,000, I paid $13,000. I can do a lot of repairs for $20,000.

Providing I don't blow up the motor. I think I have most of the common problems sorted. I'm just not sure about my current vibration thing until I get it all back together.
