    Toyota professor cursed my D3

    Gday All,

Was camped a a gorge off the Gibb River rd and the 4wd professor pulled up and camped not far from us. Didnt take long and the professor was over telling me how much of a fool i was bringing a land rover more than 5ks from a service centre. Now the professor wealth of knowledge came from his brothers best friends cousins next door neighbours relation that knew someone who read about a land rover owner and he preached to me the gospel about his 200 series and every other toyota ever made.
Now 5 years ago my pig headed nature would've most likely ended up having words with the professor and likely ended in a blue, but i walked away and kept my mouth shut much to my wifes surprise.

Well bugger me leaving the gorge i drive over a branch that spears up and takes out my rear brake pad senser, then it gets hit by a stone so now i have the orange light on the dash, combine it with the park brake light that flashes everytime the car goes on dirt. Then to top it off 2 days later i pull up for fuel and the fuel cap brakes off the part that screws into the filler neck.

Bloody professor put a curse on my D3.

    Cheers Ean

At the shooting comp I just got back from someone said to me Ahh you are a Pom thats why you bought a Landy. I asked what was wrong with them they could not answer. I also had someone tell me how his 1980's series kept breaking rear diffs and how Landies are no good. I replied the new Defender has nothing to do with a 1980 Landy in the same way no modern Ford or any other make has not changed reliability wise from the 80's.
Someone else said finally they are discontinuing them. I asked if they had ever driven one, the answer was no... I asked why they were against them and it was the usual my friends mates cousin had one and this or that happened. You ask which Defender, and they dont know, probably an old series.
One friend was telling me how 2.2 was no good to tow with. We left the shoot together and he could not keep up with me towing his caravan with his 3 liter, we arrived at the lunch stop about 20 minutes before he did. There are so many people who are armchair experts who actually know nothing.

I work with a bloke who has a Landcruiser 76 series. Now before I brought my D4 he was preaching to me all the pros for going out and buying the cruiser and obviously all the cons for buying the D4 even though he had never driven one or knew anyone directly who owned one. Anyway, we went for a little expedition into the bush shortly after I took delivery and needless to say he has been quiet and has not said a single thing since!

I don't understand why people want to get into ****ing contests? Is it an inferiority complex?

I was parked opposite the relocated telegraph station house that serves as a museum in Coen with the bonnet up just giving the donk a once over when these two guys pull up in a troop carrier.
They stop in the middle of the road and the passenger leans out the window and tells me to do myself a favour and put a match to it.

Totally unprovoked and while they though it quite funny I was literally dumb struck with the sheer nastiness of it.
I have no doubt whatsoever that neither of them has ever owned one.

The incident has stuck with me and made me even more appreciative of my old pommie bucket of bolts.

'Bloody professor put a curse on my D3"

I got cursed back in pommy land by a "Gypsy" who wanted to sell me a piece of "lucky" heather. She very politely offered it to me , and then when I very politely declined , she got very angry and cursed me. How lovely. I did feel a bit bad as she'd gone to an awful lot of trouble I suspect, picking it from a local park and then wrapping a small piece of foil around it. Fast forward a decade or so - I'm in Egypt looking at a pile of stones and there's a geezer selling carved scarab beetles - I started bartering but couldn't agree a price - and you guessed it - got cursed again. Bugger. Seeing as this was Egypt and not South London - I sought advice from the tour guide who told me that if you already have a curse on you and then get cursed again , the curser takes on the old curse. Beautiful. So all you have to do mate , is get cursed again!
    cheers,

I had a Ford Explorer before my Landies, so I've copped for quite a while, and from Land Rover owners too.
