    upper tailgate problem....assistance please!!!!

    Hi There,
So my first issue with my D3, the upper tailgate. Friday, I went to open the tailgate, didn't work first time tried it again it worked, put it down as fluke. Yesterday went to take my daughters spare wheel to be fixed got to the tyre shop tailgate refused to open, on the third or fourth time I heard the usual whirring noise and the tailgate opened. Got home, again same problem, this time I had to take the spare wheel out via the rear seats.

Took the D3 out for a drive got back, tailgate opened first click. I then too the tailgate apart, cleaned things up checked the wire was all good, no problem. After that for the rest of the day and until a trip to Bunnings this afternoon, fine, first click tailgate opened.

Bunnings loaded up with potting mix etc got home now I have nothing, no noises at all. I did a search and found something about pressing the lock and unlock buttons on the dash simultaneously, tried that nothing, still stuck fast. Potting mix etc removed via rear doors.

Assuming this can't be a fuse, all the other doors and petrol locking cap are working fine......... whats next?

Help required, thanks in anticipation for all responses..........

Have a read about this fix:

I fixed mine over 4 yrs ago by doing this:

Hardest part is getting it open in the first place!

    Cheers Rich.

    Hi Rich,
Thanks for the info, I spoke to Roger yesterday he mentioned about the fix and his dilemma when he was away travelling.

As with all the comments I have received the issue is getting the blasted thing open once it stops working. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, if I had spoken to Roger before the last time the tailgate opened I would have heeded the early warning signs and not shut the tailgate for that last and final time.

I can see a lot of posts about fixing things after you get the tailgate open, and as you mention Rich the hardest part is getting the tailgate open in the first place.

Because I have a new actuator and latch on order I was simply going to cut the cable, pull it out through the trim panel and actuate the tailgate catch..................how does that sound?

    Hi Martin,
That's great, thank you, just what I needed. Going by the state of the carpet I would say he has given that demo a few times. One statement I find interesting "It is good if you have someone to hold the torch for you"................right..

    Hi Martin,
Ok, I have now made the special tool required. I'll see how difficult it is to Go-Pro the whole operation, in position, i'll see if I can post that when I have finished. Other than that I'll attach some pictures if and when I get the tailgate open. Should be fun...............looking forward to it.
