OK at home - use off road height and maybe a bit more, pull the suspension 20A fuse and put a couple of stands under the chassis just in case, but not so safe on travels with no stands on hand.

    D3 fuel filter leaking

Put my D3 in for service and at 310,000k fuel filters had never been a problem, but on return 100k's from home (1600k's trip), I could smell fuel, checked underneath and found fuel leaking. No tools so got home ASAP.
On checking, found fuel filter leaking (apparently from top area), hand tightened filter slightly, leak stopped, BUT also found that service guy had not refitted the water sensor.
Rang service guy who informed me that as all D3 filters leak around water sensor, they had removed it. (But not told me.)
2 weeks later, travelling on another long trip, doing a comfort stop and smelt diesel, and on checking found fuel running out from filter area. (100k's from Sandfire). Tried tightening, no improvement, drove another 400k's with fuel leaking (lost about another 45litres), made it to Hedland where a mate had a new filter, fitted that, no leaks. Car back to Perth for other repairs 2 weeks later, and soon as arrived in Perth it started leaking again (from top).
ALL leaks were from the top of the filter and I noticed when comparing filters, that the seals were at different heights inside filter, suggesting that they perhaps can be pushed back when fitting, so make a poor seal and then leak. Now on 4th filter in 4 months and keep a spare in the car at all times.
Would be keen to know of an alternative filter system to fit, as this system is a bit fragile and unreliable, as pretty sure that is might be possible that corrugated/rough roads may vibrate filters loose.
