    Brake wear sensors.

Can anyone confirm that if the brake wear sensors have activated a caution then they have to be replaced with the pads. This is what I read in the workshop manual. Cheers.

You can replace the pads without the sensors but it is recommended to do so at the same time.

I replaced both front and rear pads without replacing either sensor but if you could buy them as a set ... ie pads and sensor together then it would be a good idea.

Yes. The sensor activates when the pads wear down. The sensor also wears downs and the circuit is broken to trigger the caution.

You can short-circuit the sensor by cutting and joining the two wires however this will mean you will need to keep checking you brake wear.

If the caution hasn't been triggered you could replace the pads without the sensor but it becomes brittle with heat and chances are you'd damage it in the removal process anyway.

I done front and back pads on weekend and replaced both sensors, front sensor is a real pain on the RRS as the connector is up in behind the panel inside the guard.
Would be lucky to remove sensors from old pads without damaging them.
    Good luck.....

Just thought I'd throw this up for the brains trust. Just recently today I've been getting some intermittent check brake pads warnings come up. Last time I checked (less than 10,000km ago) there was plenty of meat left on the pads. Im going to recheck them anyway, but the dash warning seems to be coming and going as it pleases. Im thinking it may be a break in the wiring thats occasionally going open circuit. I have recently done some beach work so theres a chance some sand/grit has possibly damaged a sensor. I'll most likely remove the sensor and bridge the wiring anyway

    Shane.
I would be checking the brake pad wire to loom connection. The sensor on the pad wears thru so a throw away job. There is only 1 front and 1 rear sensor, unsure which side they are on.Im sure the brains trust will say.

Its right front and left rear from memory. Anyway I'll be having a look in the next couple of nights when I get some time. I would have thought if the sensor has gone full time open circuit like a genuine wear indication then the fault light would stay lit full time? I seen it flashing randomly today on the drive home

That's the way I see it Shane.Once its worn its on.
The flickering to me suggests the connection to the loom.

Hi Shane, it's actually the other way round, left front and right rear, might save you a couple of minutes, agree on the connection being faulty, bridging the rear first and seeing if it goes is easier.
