Aftermarket nav on factory screen

Just passing on info here - no endorsement as haven't actually progressed beyond enquiry.

I followed this up with Naviplus - they have this unit for $1,250 which is based on Igo Primo: Satellite GPS Navigation Audio Upgrade FOR Range Rover Evoque in VIC | eBay

They advised this re Hema - For the HEMA Map, our iGO Mapping card comes with OziExplorer to load HEMA contents from HEMA DVD.

They are Melbourne based, don't have a DIY installation manual at this point. Did offer an installer in Sydney(Auburn) - I didn't ask the cost of this installation. Pretty helpful, also advised the following :

The installation isn't hard as other systems - It's a plug & play system that HDD type GPS module connects to the back ports of the audio.

No need to wire to car's power etc - as It receives power from the car's audio - after all, It's an oem system.

The only hard part, probably for both installers and DIY is the GPS Antenna, which requires to be installed inside of the Engine bay, via gateway between glovebox and engine bay (this so called gateway is just a circular hole that gets blocked with rubber bushing, located behind glovebox)



For the installation of box and antenna, according to our installers they all claimed that it really depends on vehicle and preference.

They all agreed that GPS Antenna definitely has to be installed inside of the engine bay - they normally install under body frame, tape it up with water&electric proof tape.

And for the box, mainly for Evoque they install it inside of the empty space below the audio unit, and for D4 - either same as Evoque or behind the monitor.

Installation inside of glovebox is ideal for Map card access for future updates, but our customers didn't want something to be inside of the glovebox all the time, reducing usable space.

So It's really preference of the driver and installer I suppose.

I'm not quite clear on how the navigation is enabled by just plugging it in...? Not sure what other options exist in the market. Will have more of a poke around when time allows.

One other thing I considered. To access the SD card slot if the unit is tucked away behind the dash, could use an extension cable something like this: SD Microsd Card Extension Cable Adapter Flexible Extender Cable 24inch Long WIN5 | eBay

Thanks for the info. I'm certainly tempted. I expect after doing a Traxide, UHF and electric brake controller install most of us wouldn't be too phased about the GPS antenna part, more nervous about pulling apart of the dash. Extension of the SD card reader to somewhere accessible would be a good idea.

So Lookin4 are you thinking of going for it?

Agree. Yes, thinking about it. Not too daunted about pulling the dash apart as I did it for my reversing camera retrofit. Just want to do a bit more research before committing in case there are better options out there (I haven't come across any) Will poke around Freelander forums and see if anyone has put this unit in...

Remind me is Your OEM system the H-K HiICE or later?

I went to the Naviplus site and they don't list the D4 until post 2013, only the D3 to 2010 and the RRS to 2013? :( So MY12 D4 misses out again :BigCry: .

You may be in luck, for the later version (in my original link) with upgrades whereby the audio and call data shows up over the navigation when selected and you don't have to hold down the button for an extended period to get into Nav, it seems to show 2012 as supported. Might be best to contact them though, as I had assumed by the date range it only supported the later Meridian systems.

From the site: 'Also, this system is compatible with any 3rd Gen Land Rover vehicles, which means any Land Rover vehicles from 2012 are compatible with this sytem, but must have 7" touch display audio.'

It has the 7" screen (Harmon Kardon Hi-ICE) but is a 2011 build MY12 model. I've been waiting till it was out of factory warranty before upgrading, so now I can.

Looked at the link, but it is talking about the Meridian system or at least that is what I am seeing.

My OEM HK system is the same as the image above (although my trim is camel coloured :angel: )
