Exclamation MY15 Disco 4 headlamp globes - what type?

Hi, I ordered some Nightbreaker H7 globes and Osram Cool Blue W5W globes for the daytime running lights only to find they are not the correct ones. The manual and powerbulbs website both say the globes are as above.

The main headlamp globes look more like this:

and the daytime running light globes are W21 5w type like:

For those on here that have replaced MY15 D4 halogen globes can you please direct me in the correct direction ?

Hi, I can't help your exact problem, but which variant (TDV6, SDV6, HSE) do you have?

Are you sure you don't have Xenon bulbs? They have a base like a cube (which contains the ballast) and you can see the components separated out in this picture:

    MY15 TDV6

I had taken the lights off and opened them up, removing the globes at which point I realised the ones I bought as replacements were the incorrect type.

Best i can tell they are HB4 globes like these:

OSRAM Night Breaker Unlimited HB4 (Twin) | PowerBulbs

and the driving lights/parker lights are:

KONIK T20 7443 12V W21/5W Wedge Platinum White Halogen Light Bulb Globe No Error | Blingwork Automotive Lighting

I just need to confirm from anyone that may heave replaced the globes.

HB3s look pretty similar to those too. I have an unused pair of Phillips HB3s if you want to try them.

Ordered from Blingwork automotive HB4 globes as I read elsewhere on these forums that HB4 (=9006 type globes) fit. Will test everything out later in week.

Reviving an old thread to see what further experiences people may have with replacement headlight bulbs for the standard halogen lights.
I've identified options, details of the factory bulb and some questions as follows.

    1) - Factory bulb is HIR2 9012
It's not the H7 mentioned in the owner's manual or the HB4, at least for MY14 and probably later as well.
HIR2 is a Philips only bulb that is somewhat difficult to source but have found it at autobulbsdirect.co.uk: Philips H1R2 / HIR2 Halogen Replacement Bulb 12v 55w
~$72 + shipping, so probably around $190 delivered a pair.
But a better option seems to be hids4u.co.uk: 9012 Super White Upgrade Bulb
~$60 + shipping, so probably around $85 delivered for a pair.
These are supposed to be 30% better/whiter light. I believe standard HIR2 is 3450K and 1870 lumens

This is one of my bulbs

    2) - HB4 9006 Bulb Replacement
It appears that a HB4 9006 will also fit, the only difference being a slightly different locking tab on the light fitting.
The HB4 is mentioned in this thread but there's no follow-up.
However, it doesn't seem to actually be an upgrade in total light, given these specs for a couple of good quality HB4s:
OSRAM HB4 9006 Night Breaker with 3400K and 1095 Lumens
PHILIPS HB4 9006 White Vision with 4100K and 1095 Lumens
Available for around $65 + shipping for a pair from Blingwork Auto:
PHILIPS HB4 9006 12V WHITE VISION 4100K WHITE Light Halogen Bulbs | Blingwork Automotive Lighting
Prices from UK are a bit worse now that the exchange rate is poor.

    3) - HID Upgrade Kit
There are a few kits and one that looks good is sold by hids4u.co.uk.
It gets favourable reviews on Disco3 and the owner is a member of that forum. HIR2/9012 55W HIDS4U Ultimate HID Conversion Kit
There was also good feedback from doddsy in the following thread: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...raded-hid.html
$215 + shipping, so probably around $260 delivered.
It's 5000K but lumens not specified, although claims to be around 3x better than factory halogen.

Blingwork in Melbourne also have a kit too for $400:
HIR2 9012 CustomMade Philips CANbus HID 6000k Conversion Kit + Ballast | Blingwork Automotive Lighting

    SUMMARY
So the cheapest option is HB4 bulbs that will have a whiter light but less lumens. This may be an improvement on the road (better light colour).
Only slightly more cost is an upgraded HIR2 bulb from hids4u with apparently 30% more light.
And the best option for colour/lumens seems to be the HID kit, with a cost comparable to 2 x factory HIR2 bulbs.

Has anyone tried the upgraded HIR2 bulb? thoughts?
Has anyone installed HB4 bulbs? thoughts?
Has anyone else installed an HID kit? thoughts?
Have I missed any other options?
LED bulbs don't seem to be a viable option for the main headlight beams.

I wonder if those (blingwork) HID kits have the same issue as a number of other aftermarket ones where they take a small amount of time to "warm up" after being switched on...

Also... there are a few errors in the Blingwork page. The kit is advertised as 6000k but the description talks about 4200k kit.
I would be asking a lot of questions before ordering from them!

Yes, and it costs more than the proven product (hids4u). TBH I only put it there for comparison because I came across it while looking into things.
In my mind the decision is between the improved HIR2 bulbs and the HID Kit, unless someone has a better option....

I have ordered a Pair of these for my 2015 D4 and will post some before and after photo's. 9012 Super White Upgrade Bulb

If there's not much difference I might have to go with the HID upgrade option.

Pardon my ignorance, but I am having trouble understanding why people are finding the need to upgrade the low beam globes...

Mine seem fine for all the situations that I use them, which for the majority of time, is around town. Out on the highway, the driving lights make any high beam upgrade pointless.

Added to this, if you upgrade, IE: make brighter, the low beam, then you are likely to dazzle on-coming traffic, and make yourself fairly unpopular.

HID "upgrades" in the high beam also seem pointless to me, given the warm-up time required. If I want high beam, I want it now. Not in a couple of seconds time.

So, am I missing something in all this?
