Can the Outback Accessories RWC be removed?

I've recently purchased a used D4 that came with an Outback Accessories RWC.

Its a very sturdy and effective RWC, but my previous D3 had the spare underneath and I'm finding that having the wheel mounted on the back for day-to-day use is somewhat restrictive.

    - Opening the tailgate is not as quick
    - The parking sensors are not reliable making parking less certain.

Is the OA RWC removable in such a way as it can be fairly quickly re-installed for trips and so on, but removed to make day-to-day operation around town easier?

Yep pop the metal cap off you can see on the end of the arm under the tail lights , undo and remove the crown nut and lift the carrier off. You will see the stub shaft should remain . Just be wary of the bearing that sits under the crown nut.

I don't have that brand but same concept.

    Cheers Ean

Does anybody lock the handle in place for corrugated roads? I see a slot for an R clip or similar but mine didn't come with one.

I've never locked the handle on mine, and it has never come undone on any type of road surfaces.

Have forgotten to close the handle properly a couple of times though - the strut will hold the wheel in place .................................................. ...... until you go round a corner.
    Cheers .........
