Afternoon,
I have to remove the engine on my 2006 TDV6 Discovery. This is to strip and find out what is wrong with the low oil pressure after a dunking in some water.
So, looking for thoughts on how to do this at home. No car lift/ramp for me to lift the body off!!
Guess the first question is:
Can the engine be removed without taking the body off?
Second question is:
How can you lift the body off at home? E.g no car lift/ramp.
Look forward to advise from forum members.
Thanks,
Chilly
Here is a link to a "How to.." for body off - looks like you need a hoist.

The engine can be replaced without body off - several here have had it done - but it seems a lot more work.
Good luck!
Hopefully we can attract JC's attention,Im sure he will have a way a DIY body off could be done.

Thanks Jonesy,
Started to read that last night before going to work.
Will print it off later.

Hi Chilly,
Don't know where you are located or anything however you might advertise on Gumtree for anyone prepared to hire / rent their hoist to lift the body off. Some people have them in their sheds and don't use them all the time. You could explore possibly a usage rate and an idle rate while you are fixing the engine problem at home.
As far as I know the V6 engines will come out, the V8's have to have the body taken off
I don't think this is the sort of job to be tackled on axel stands with a jack and an engine hoist. Sure it can be done though with plenty of time.
Cheers Marty
Have been told by experts that it is "possible" to remove engine through engine bay, but most experts have gone for body lift as that just makes everything that much easier to access and refit.
With the body off, you can also get to check a multitude of other things you might want to check, wiring, insulation, electrical connections, suspension bushes etc..........on a Disco the list might be endless.
Plenty of vids on how to lift body on YouTube.
PM DazzaTD5, from posts in other threads he's made I gather he's had a bit of experience with swapping TDV6's.
Cheers, Dale
