All I can think of with those backbone rails is wind noise, the platform is bad enough, those holes would make it worse wouldn't it:confused:

The rack that I had on my old 80 series landcruiser was significantly noiser - but that also had significantly worse sound deadening. I don't really have that much of an issue with wind noise from the rack as a whole
Excellent - I've been curious about this too. I'd originally assumed the DAB antenna wouldn't be an issue as it only needs approx 40mm to clear it. My concern arose due to this statement in the online Rhino specs:Quote:

So I checked their fitting chart, and it lists in addition to the standard fit kit (1x RD4B1) for satellite aerial you also require: 3x LHS2PAIR and 3x B103-BP
Is the "Satellite aerial" is something different to DAB antenna...?
Sorry for the bit of a grave dig, but I am considering manufacturing a "Backbone" style rail for my D2.
Could somebody tell me what thickness material the backbone is manufactured from, the rhino site only states "steel".
From the previous pics it looks to be between 4 and 6mm.

There is one on ebay ATM with a rhino platform for $650 ONO for those interested. I would love to buy it, but after just buying a kayak my chances of getting it past the financial officer are zero [bawl]
A rough check with a steel ruler in the dark looks like it's 3mm. I can check it properly tomorrow with a vernier (and my reading glasses...) [bighmmm]Quote:

I fitted my newly purchased Backbone and 2100 x 1400 (odd) platform. Lovely and sturdy, able to climb all over it. Add two c-channel cross bars to it to mount the rook box to when I want to use that. Also added a 6" work light to the rear. I'll post up photos soon.
