Thread: Rhino Backbone

I like the Rhino stuff, looks neat. The only comment I would make is it looks like the black plastic trim has been removed underneath it. This would make it a permanent installation which to me would remove one of the real benefits of the Rhino rack - its very light and easy to take on and off.

Looks good. Would certainly lower the height of the pioneer rack - I currently sit one on top of some Rhino bars which sit on the factory rails and it is pretty high.

Only negative I can see is that in the past when I have mounted stuff really low to the roof I get a lot more wind noise than when they are a bit higher.

Very interesting. Looks to be an alternative to the rails, to which different rack products (such as Pioneer) are then fitted.

So looks like these Backbone rails are effectively permanent but the Pioneer Platform or cross bars or whatever else they have would be removable, similar to their current stuff.

Would love to see one in real life.

In my case the fitment would be permanent.Love the low profile look.There are 2 widths availble too.

Great to see an off-road shop happy to talk Land Rover,it was ARB in Wangara for you WA folk.Earlier in the day I had 2 failed to be impressed by service by OL dealers,funnily enough both disapointed when I was getting bull bar prices.The second OL dealer was serving a D4 owner,he almost sounded rude,I walked out remembering him saying he wasnt interested in fitting a D4 bar.Was in there to buy an OL tyre deflator,ARB got the sale and into the future possibly a roof rack.

Using that mechanism voids the ability to mount anything below the roof rack for easy access, imho.

I have a front runner extended 2.2m, it is low profile and I mount a long handle shovel, spare HF whip and eye hooks underneath for securing loads.

Access is gained from the sides, this system would limit the ability for access and also washing the roof when needed once a roof rack lattice system is bolted to it.

I saw one of these with a Pioneer platform on a D4 a few weeks ago and was getting around to investigating what it was.


Looked very neat, nice low profile.

Certainly different to the other options kicking around and would look good with the Pioneer rack as a permanent fixing.

Even if I was in the market now though I'd still go for the Rhino tracks, it's really fast to put the Pioneer on and off, and when it's off, they're virtually invisible.

LandyAndy, which OL's did you go to, and what sort of difference in the ARB and OL pricing did you find? I have heard Welshpool OL are good and find their 2014+ bar looks just that bit better than the ARB one.

They are both in suburbs that start with a W!!!!
Didnt get the roofrack price from them,when its time I will probably get one from OL Bunbury where I bought my bar.
