Whats the small module on side of gearbox near gear selector mechanism

I took off the cover plate to find the fuel filter. I marvelled at how the big name melbourne dealer had lost to of the m6 bolts and used cable ties instead for the most outer bolts.. The thread wasnt stripped, they couldnt be bothered putting in the right bolt...I found a small module that seems to sit alongside the gearbox right where the cable is.. its mounting plate was broken.
Could someone tell me what that module is and do i leave it cable tied to the cable or is there a fix for it.
Curiously when we secured it, rather than leave it dangling, my reversing sensors began to work.

Is there only 1 or 2 wires going into the module or many? Somewhere nearby there should be an externally-mounted capacitor attached to a power and possibly an earth wire.

It took a while but i found it

Hi Graeme thanks for that yes it is a suppressor cap. If it fails it can cause fuse 30 failure which then stops the tranny from selecting gears.
I might get it replaced as the bracket has broken. I will get my mechanic to fit a new one when i get him to do fuel filter.
I dont get how my reversing sensors started to work all of a sudden. dont know which fix was responsible for that
