    Battery Monitoring system

    Hi All

I have a Traxide dual battery system in my D4 and would like to have a more accurate form of battery monitoring. I came across this today and wondered what people think about it. They are currently on special at Annaconda for $199.00.

No gauges to install as it uses Bluetooth as a link to an App on your Phone.

I understand that you should not install anything across the Main Battery on these vehicles but as this is just a shunt, there would be very little current draw and should be Ok.

    Looking forward to your thoughts.

    Regards

    Peter

Ha Haa. Thanks for that Michael T.
I was looking for something more than a Voltmeter. This thing measures information including volts and amps, time remaining, temperature, battery status, state of charge and battery health.

I can't offer any insights Peter but FYI there is a similar discussion happening at this thread that I have been keeping an eye on:

Met a bloke with a couple of "Mooshimeters" set up on his dual battery system in a D4 at Melrose last Easter. Was pretty impressed with what these things could be used for.

    Cheers .........

I wouldn't connect ANYTHING to the NEG pole of the cranking battery - with the vehicles internal BMS looking at the system from that connection you are asking for a world of error pain (read limp mode) if you do.

My understanding is that the genuine battery is a pyrotechnic type, which is designed to protect the on-board computers if there is a short in the system by internally severing the connection inside the battery.

My alternator died creating a short circuit resulting in a new battery being required as well, so a shunt may cost lots of $$$, there are other methods of getting voltage info displayed, I use a scanguage mounted in front of the speedo and plugged into the obd2 port.

    Hi Peter
Take a look in detail at the specs for this unit. It's designed for monitoring an RV battery not a car's crank battery. As others have stated, nothing should be connected to the negative terminal of a Disco's crank battery.
