cargo barrier for D3 same as D4?

    Hi All
Just wanted to know if the cargo barrier for a D3 is the same as a D4 one.
Got 3/4 through making boxes to fit the rear of my D3 when the minister for war and finance asked if we should have a cargo barrier.
Then she wanted to know if the boxes and cargo barrier would fit the D4 when we upgrade.
As you can imagine, I have made the boxes to fill the entire length of the cargo area, not much room left for a cargo barrier.

    Cheers Tasobb

Yes they are. If you want a rated barrier and eventually want to move it to another vehicle my tip is to get an Autosafe as it leaves no holes when you remove it.

I have just pulled mine out of the D4 and have been able to remove all the hardware and return the interior to looking completely standard.

    Cheers,
    Jon

You could also look at the TRAVALL one. It's not rated in Australia but a number of members have them and reckon they're good. They only have mesh above the seat and can be fitted by yourself. I'm considering replacing my Milford one with one of these so I can use the whole floor space up to the front row when I need to - circumstances have changed my requirements.

Here's a link to their site.

cargo barrier for D3 same as D4?

Also have a look at the trav-all. It's the same for D3 and D4. No modifications or permanent fixings so easily transferable.

However, as it states on their website, it has not been certified to the Australian Standard for cargo barriers. Certification requires testing to enable the barrier to receive a rating and they have not taken this step.

Having said that, in my view the trav-all will offer sufficient protection from lighter items that may be packed on top of my rear drawers for long trips (eg roll mats). And I wanted something that's easy to remove/install because I usually don't want a barrier for around town.

So it's a balance of strength/rating versus ease of install/removal and intended use. Depends on what you expect to be protecting in the way of loose items in the back. Not the right answer for everyone but could be an option for you.

    Regards,
    Scott

EDIT: Martin beat me to it cargo barrier for D3 same as D4?

I would second Jon on the Autosafe barrier. Personally I'd go full height because:

    1) I do use the barrier to lock in my fridge in the middle passenger seat as well as the water tank behind the barrier.
    2) The seat back are not rated to take heavy impact, such as drawers in a sudden stop, and may fail.
    3) Personally for me as well it was the liability reasons; everything has to be rated for peace of mind in this litigious day and age.

    G'day Tasobb,

Like a few others I have a 1/2 height Autosafe. Super handy to be able to drop a seat down and get past the barrier when needed.

My fridge is strapped in and I'm more concerned about things coming over the seats than through them. But that will depend what you are likely to carry back there.

Also rather handy when the weather is that foul, sleeping in the car is preferable to the swag.

However, I just saw this in the AULRO marketplace you may be interested in...

    Cheers Guys
looked at the autosafe but could not find the 1/2 size ones , will ring them on Wed.
Good Idea and thinking about the travall (access and all),but the not Aust. standard will prob worry the better half.
I have a ironman fridge/freezer to go in the back cupboard, which is about 600 heigh, so not much room to carry anything on top, and the cupboard will be bolted down, soooooo I'm leaning towards a half barrier.(plus heaps cheaper)
    Decisions ,decisions.

That's mine, this thread reminded me to list it before I forgot it was stored under the house.
Didn't want to hijack the question with my advert
