One is the tech pack. I have all but given up on the GPS, slowest input I have ever experienced and the routes it chooses are mind boggling, my iPhone now sits over the screen as it functions much better.
Is it normal to push a button, have to wait seconds to push the next letter then a few seconds for the next letter?
Now the sound is great but I feel pretty sore thinking I need to upgrade the upgraded system just to get it functional.

The other more important issue is the seats. It has the leather non electronic seats and they are HARD and offer very little support. I thought it might just be my bony rear but have had a number of passengers complain as well and I took a ride in the back seat yesterday and they are even worse.

So have LR purposely made the base models out of rock to remind their owners that they should have bought a HSE or are they all like this?
I really hate the thought but am contemplating covering the beautiful leather in sheepskin but since I fold the rear flat often it's not an option there.

Does anyone have work arounds for my issues?

I am amazed by what this car can do and expect to keep it a long time, I can cop putting an aftermarket entertainment system in but these seats could be a deal breaker!
I'm confused .... you have the TechPack which means it's got an H&K Hi-Ice or Meridian entertainment/sound system doesn't it? Are you saying you don't think it's good enough or you were just giving an example of what you would consider a component change you could live with?

    Cheers.

Unless something has changed H&K Hi-Ice or Meridian equivalent was the base requirement to get the touch screen which enable GPS, reverse camera, etc. The older Hi-Ice had 7 or 9 speakers from memory, the newer has 11. Can't comment about Meridian as that came later than my current MY13. I'm pretty certain you can't have those features without at least Hi-Ice.

There is a Premium Ice available for more bucks .... or there was, now a Meridian equivalent again I think. Maybe that's what you are thinking about?

Check what you have on TOPIx for a definite answer.

Extra info. - Just checked the Spec Sheet and TOPIx for my MY13. Spec Sheet states that there are, as I said, 3 audio systems available for that year's model. A LR branded 8 speaker non touch-screen (standard fit for TDV6 and SDV6 SE). An 11 speaker, 7" touchscreen H&K Hi-Ice (standard on HSE). And a 17 speaker, 7" touchscreen H&K Premium Ice (Standard on the V8). The Spec sheet also states that SATNAV and Reverse Cameras are only available with the H&K audio systems. However, just to confuse things .... TOPIx states my car as Hi-Line audio .... LOL!!! I'm assuming somebody finger fudged the data entry in TOPIx.

I've got the touch screen so I must have the mid-range audio unit. It sounds no better than the bog standard one I had in the old D4.

Cars are not the best of audio platforms anyway but I recon it sounds pretty good for a standard system and H&K have a good rep. It's certainly better than the system in my Merc which is also H&K but a bit older.

    Have you checked your settings?

Maybe it's the fact that years of jet noise and guns have affected my ears a little .... and I like my music heavy!!!

Strange as it sounds, so to speak, both of our Disco's have the top of the line HK Logic7 stereo fitted. The D4's is rated as being more powerful than the D3's.

However the supposedly older and inferior HK stereo in the D3 has a way much better and crisper sound than the updated D4's. Go figure.

In actual fact the stereo in the D3 is the best stereo I have ever heard in a car.

In retrospect I think the HK sound system upgrade was better than the current Meridian system up grade.

The sound system in my previous MY12 D4 was better than in my current MY16 D4 imo.

A couple of years ago we seriously looked at buying what was then new to Australia the Summit spec Grand Cherokee. At 80k for every bell and whistle you can get I thought we should give it serious consideration, especially as I was only looking for a long distance driver.

The thing that turned me off more than anything else was the stereo, sure it was the then top of the line HK but it had no CD player, all music was stored on the hard drive.
My limited experience with sound systems that store music on hard drives is the sound quality is no where near the same as when it comes from a CD.

So the Summit got a big thumbs down and a short time later a very nice and reasonably priced secondhand V8 D4 became the vehicle of choice.

We recently bought SWMBO a bottom of the line 2016 Golf. The stereo is fantastic. Touch screen, very quick and sharp (to look at) nav, rev camera, apple car play and other toys. Make the D4 look basic and old in comparison.
