Leaking Transfer Case Drive shaft Seal

    Hi All,

In recent days I noticed a little oil on the ground and after a look underneath my D4 found the drive shaft seal from the transfer case to the front wheels is leaking.

Some further investigations from some mechanics has revealed that to replace this seal is quite a mission, with having to remove the case and split it to allow access to the circlip holding the buggered seal in place. Fixing this is quite a costly exercise from all accounts!

I'm looking for other members who this might have happened to and also where in Sydney they might have got it fixed. I know LR will charge the earth so was looking for some other options that might be a little more reasonably priced.

    Cheers.

Hi - try Award Diff & Gearbox Services at Seven Hills. Others here have had their work done and their prices are reasonable compared to others.

    Good luck!

This thread may be of interest. Failed transfer case rear bearing and rebuild done by Award:

Also a link in there to someone doing a teardown of the TC that's quite interesting.

I will confirm it is a pain to do this job. In fact it was quite comical to see 1 of us onctop of the bench with circlip pliers trying to reseat the circlip while 2 others held the case half still....😠

Actually wasn't difficult at all just frustrating.

They are a very easy case to temove thank goodness.
