    D4 8 speed tdv6 or D4 6 speed Hse tdv6?

    Hi guys,

    I am looking at either a 2013 tdv6 8 speed base model or a 2010 6 speed
TdV6 HSE I am torn is it worth the drop in extras to go the newer 8 speed?

    Any thoughts ?

    Thanks

    I was in a similar predicament when I bought mine(aug 2014).
    HSE/SE 2.7 or 3.0 around 80000ks $60000+ and not alot available then.
Brand new base TDV6 8 speed with a nice collection of dealer specified options plus 3year warranty free and low finance for $79990 drive away,I took the newbie.
The 8 speed is brilliant.Plus you get the bigger motor. The only letdown is the 19"rims which severely limit tyre choice.

I'm only commenting from purely a repairers point of view...

The 6 speed ZF 6HP26 has been around in some form since about 2000 in different applications, Ford, bmw, jag, kia and more notably in the Ford Territory and Land Rover Discovery 3. Its a well proven reliable box, that like all previous ZF boxes, needs to be serviced.

The 8 speed 8HP series is a new box that has been around since 2008. Its got some impressive specs with a 700NM torque limit and sits behind such vehicles as I believe, Iveco Daily (light truck), Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 V8 & CRD, all the Chrysler SRT models also use it, as does the D4, late RRS. ZF also sprout as to better fuel economy and shifts quicker into the milli second shifts, bluh bluh etc.

As I've already mentioned in another thread, its a well smoother box that doesnt suffer the down shift stumble of the 6HP, but suspect it will still require servicing which shouldnt be considered a down side.

But I do suspect the smoothness /quietness of late model D4, RRS is not just related to the ZF auto box, but an overall improvement of the vehicle.

    Regards
    Daz
