How does it work Scott????
Do you just undo the yellow knob and it drains out the tube????
Andrew
The water-in-fuel drain at the bottom of the fuel filter includes a yellow port.
You attach a tube and drain 100ml to check for and remove water.
The workshop manual only states "suitable drain tube".
Does anyone know what size tube or hose fits?
My guess is about a 6-8mm ID just based on holding up an M6 bolt to the yellow port (photo below).
It's reasonably difficult to get at to test different tube sizes so hoping someone actually knows from experience, plus I didn't have any tubing to hand.
I took off the covers on the driveway to have a look at how difficult it was to access and either drain water or replace filter, rather than wait for being in the middle of nowhere to attempt for the first time. It's a very tight space for access particularly when not on a hoist. You could drain it without a tube but it's directly above and close to a crossmember so would be tricky to catch the fuel properly I think.
Thanks,
Scott

Yep. Two full turns of the yellow valve. Tube goes over the inner spigot and slides inside the outer part. Ignition on but not running (so pump runs).

I just did a filter change, used an 8mm vinyl tube to drain the filter, had to loosen enough to counter the vacuum effect,ie pull the filter down, off its centre feed pipe.you should not have to worry about this if you are merely bleeding off water.i just wanted to empty enough out to prevent diesel running down the fuel tank protective plate.Filter can easily be removed by pushing up the plastic filter mount to maintain its upright position....disconnect the water sensor plug first!
We have found that 6mm clear reinforced tube from Clark Rubber fits quite well. About $2.
Chamfered the end off the reinforcing to get a nice fit into the drain port.
Right side of the photo below:
However, there is a problem! Unable to loosen the drain port at all. Tried it on two vehicles, both the same.
Felt so tight that you would break it.
It's only a small tap so you don't get much purchase on it. So I'm wondering if there's a trick or you just need to try harder?
It seemed to be an excessive amount of force for such a small plastic thing but no movement?

Yes,it is very tight to undo initially. With some trepidation,I resorted to pliers to get it to turn.Nothing came out until the filter was rotated off its bayonet type mount and then pulled down off to let some air in.It required two hands, when replacing, to push it up onto its mount and then rotate to lock position.I forgot to prime the new filter, by turning ignition on a couple of times, but motor started first attempt,if somewhat a bit lumpy, second start all ok.If only bleeding off what is in the bottom of the filter[water?]just open the yellow drain tap and turn on the ignition to operate fuel pump.
