Thread: Cooper and Mickey Thompson Tyres for 18 D4 rims?

Interestingly I went for a browse on a few sites for BFG KO2 reviews.

Incredible amount of negative reviews from
Tread wear being a lot faster than last model to very poor handling in wet...

Lots of "+25 year customer won't be buying again" feedback in the USA forums.

Have a few club members running them here so will keep in touch with what they think..

Every time I had BFG on a vehicle I've had nothing but problems.... Either chunking, cracking at base of tread, delaminating sidewall...

Ask LR JR about his recent blow out on a not so old BFG...

But good to see other makers taking on the size. Cooper and Mickey Thompson Tyres for 18 D4 rims?
The Defence force has had a few issues as well, which are under investigation, but my experience after having A few sets over the last12 yrs,and given them a hiding has been the exact opposite.

Some have had cracks at the base of the treads, but they were pretty worn and old by then and didn't seem to cause any issues.

Although they do chip badly on some roads as do many other brands.

The squareness of the tread reduces the bulging that can cause issues.I don't think the KO2 has as square as edge as the KO?
In sand with the D2 or the D4,I have never had an issue.

It would be good to hear some local reports on the KO2.

I have been putting off replacing mine that are shot, but will probably go with them again.

When you have had a good run,why change?

    Just my two cents worth......

Those reviews aren't worth a pinch of salt.

In fact if you look at the reviews about the Bridgestone A/T 697's,they are full of negativity as well, like driving on ice, worse tyres i have ever had, hopeless in the wet,out of round, etc, etc.

Maybe i will type in Land Rover and see what comes up

Bottom line is,they are full of garbage.

Real world experience is the best by far, such as reports from guys on here

Many on here run 697's and give them good reviews.
Many on here run BFG and give the same

As a comparison, many also run or have run the C brand and wouldn't go near them again

Agree Scarry - hence I'm watching with interest the local boys running them.

I do travel with some guys who run the Bridgestones and have for years and they're very happy... Several were BFG boys.

Only 2 guys in the club now run Cs... The rest all got away from them after big failures.

Hi, I have a new set of Cooper AT3 on my 2009 RRS and done 10000km so far. So far all ok no problems to report. Smooth, quiet and seem fine in the wet. They are 265/60/18 and fit is fine, no rubbing and spare fitted underneath albeit tight.

Have had many Coopers before and no complaints, last set did 100000kms, they were STC's and LT's, so I guess they will last longer than the AT3's.

    Good luck

First proper run with my Cooper STT Pro's over the long weekend.
Very impressed with them off road. Made a climb that a Patrol on 35" Trepadors couldn't. Some on road noise, but pretty good considering they are a proper mud tyre.
