    Aftermarket GPS

    Hi All,

I'm a newby to this forum, so please forgive if I'm not doing it correctly.

I have purchased a secondhand 2011 Discovery 4 TDV6. As it's the base model it doesn't have an inbuilt GPS and I thought it would be nice to install a permanent GPS in the vehicle. A reversing camera would be nice as well.

I have been doing some research and found a "ST-804" from a Chinese company, which states that it is for a Discovery 4, but looks very much like their "ST-803" which is for a Discovery 3. It has a GPS, DVD and can have a reversing camera attached as well. Where the DVD head unit would fit, I'm not sure. Details of the unit are available here.

I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with the ST-804 and/or any advice about aftermarket GPS systems for my model Discovery 4, that are designed to fit to the vehicle. Anything that I do put into the vehicle, I would like to look good and function well.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

2007 2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 HD Car DVD Player Navi Radio RDS GPS Bluetooth | eBay

These things look amazing. T.V DVD Mp3 GPS. What doesn't it do?
The one for the D3 is much cheaper for some reason. And I want one!
Sorry not much help, i've never fitted one. There's some good pics of the dash fitted on ebay though.

Get plenty of advice before buying as the factory entertainment units run the vehicles second canbus system so there could be modifications needed.
Best bet is find somebody who has done the job already

They work fine. What you do lose however....

Factory BT for phone becomes the unit, so lose integrated phone and audio via speakers.
Also needs another microphone installed (included).

Interface is ok, not particularly fast but it's ok.

Thanks for the replies so far gents. I would be very interested in any photos that people may have of their installations and where they have placed the DVD head unit. The only pictures I have seen on the Net show the display unit in the dash only.

Any known integration issues would also be greatly appreciated. For example, the clock in the drivers dashboard display appears to be connected to the factory entertainment system. I'm assuming that the factory entertainment system needs to be disconnected, at least to a degree to allow for speaker and steering wheel connectivity. So does this create other issues?

Dvd goes in top glove box.

I fitted one of these to a D3.. And it helped me decide to not do it in my D4...

    Hi Tombie,

Thank you very much for your replies, they have been useful. At the moment I'm leaning towards no, but will keep on researching.

    Cheers,

I bought a Hema Navigator 7, as my MY16 D4 didn't come with Sat Nav. Can't praise it highly enough..... and I've only used it in Street Mode so far!!!! LOL
