    Discreet Mount Winch - Sydney

    Hey Team

    two questions:

    1) Does anyone know someone in Sydney who makes and installs the discreet mount winches as pictured below?

    2) Also, what is the feedback on cheap winches as they seem to vary from 300-2000 in price, is this just marketing at its best or will the $400 cheap ones leave me stuck somewhere?

    thanks, Luke

You could try Cremorne Prestige in Artarmon. Greg has one fitted to his D4.

Be interested to hear how you progress...

    Thanks.

'Goodspanner' down at Brookvale said if I can find one they will fit it for $330-$440 (i.e. 3-4 hours expected).

I think I will be able to find one cheaper than the $900 at 'Sydney 4x4' but I will need to keep hunting.

I'm conscious that it all adds up fast, mount + install + winch etc so need to keep the cost down.

Get a Runva winch, good value for a decent winch.

Not as discrete but perhaps a bit more protection from the bar in this vid. Looks a bit heavier seeing it on the laptop screen tbh.

    Hi Luke,

I have a spare discrete winch mount for a D4 (2015) like the one shown in your picture sitting in my garage, I'd be happy to sell it to you (or anyone else) at a very good price.

There are a few reasons it's sitting in the garage and not on the car:-

    1 - Not ADR approved
2 - In my opinion it reduces frontal impact protection significantly
3 - Mounting the winch control box was total ass-pain it doesn't fit if mounted to the winch and wouldn't be accessible even if it did

I went all the way to actually test fitting it and the winch to the vehicle before I thought better of it.
I've attached a picture of the winch and bar test fitted.

In the end I went with an OL bar and I'm happy with that.

    x2 with drelectro

I also thought I wanted a discreet winch but for same reasons listed (plus attempt to keep weight down) I decided not to, plus I am very happy with OL bar and winch set up. Like most things, personal choice, but great to hear views of others before making a decision and then regretting it....
