    Another blown engine :( Euro3 TDV6 Options?

    Hey Guys:
Another of my Discovery 3's has blown the engine with the failed Timing Pulley Tensioner etc... (I was told Oil Pump Housing had been replaced... doesn't look like it now!!!)

Obviously I've had some experience with replacing the Engine with a Territory TDV6 last time, however as luck would have it that was a Euro4 2008 Discovery 3.

This car is a 2007 Euro3 Car (With EGR Blanks Installed etc.).

Does anyone have any idea what needs to change between Euro3 to Euro4 Engine Setups... is a Ford Engine still possible?

    Regards
    Heath

Bugger mate. You have had a bad run. Diesels should in theory give long life...

    Cheers

    Yes,
The DiscoUK Forums seem to indicate that you just need to change the High Pressure Fuel Pump and Fuel Rail from Old Engine to New..

Injectors are different however operate correctly.

I looked into this when I repaced my D3 engine. Whilst I didn't go into a lot of detail with my mechanic, differences between EU3 and EU4 include turbo manifold, wiring harnesses, and a number of ECU upgrades. I guess technically it could be done however it might be cost prohibitive. I guess it walks also require an engineering certificate.

If you are swapping a blown EU3 D3 engine for a EU4 engine from a Territory it's not cost prohibitive as you have all the parts you need on your old engine.

As shown in the linked thread, the fuel rails and HPFP (and ideally injectors) need to be swapped over, on top of the parts that would have to be swapped over anyway, which are:

    Loom
    Knock sensors
    Pulleys
    Timing cover
    Some EGR pipework
    Auxiliary belt tensioner
    Turbo inlet and outlet pipework
    A couple of assorted brackets

And BusinessConnected, are you sure it's a 2007? From the 2007 MY onwards, they came with the EU4 engine.

It may actually be a 2006/2007. I know it happily utilises the EGR Blank Kits without throwing any codes etc... So I assumed it is Euro 3

An EU4 can be blanked successfully, if it has a software patch applied.

Check the VIN. If it's a 7A, you don't need to worry about the posts above.

VIN is SALLAAA137A420XXX (XXX are Numbers).

Does this mean I'm a 7A and Euro4 Spec but for whatever reason happily running with EGR Blanking kits I installed myself?

    I didn't even realise
