Speak to Adil from Coburg North Motor Wreckers, 0421 701 967. He ships Territory motors all over the country. I got mine with 155kms (not 155000) for $4000.

    1) the oil pump casing cracking-usually after the service where the front/back belts are changed and they use the old designed oil pump; and
    2) big-end caps falling off from a bolt/nut coming loose.

    I'm sorry?? they do what???

Every engine failure thats come to me, if its the oil pump housing broken or broken crankshaft, they dont run. The fact this one still runs tends to point to another issue.

As mentioned in previous posts on this subject, the D3 is now getting to the age and value that cheaper engine swaps (as in old out, used working straight in) is going to become the norm.

The cost of used Land Rover Discovery 3 diesels from known sources are ridiculously expensive and are not much less than a new factory crate engine. Of course there is a lot more labour cost in fitting a new crate engine as all the ancillary parts need to come off the old engine, cleaned, inspected, serviced as required, then fitted to the new engine.

I guess it comes down to what owners want to do, if its a vehicle thats still worth good dollars and they want to keep it, then a new factory crate engine is the go. But if its in that bottom end of what they are worth ($10K - $15K) then doing a cheap swap to get it back running is ok. We covered this on another thread, say what? $6K for an engine and.... maybe 3 - 4K to swap over? so for near or less than half the cost of fitting a new crate engine.

Its something I have no doubt I (and other repairers) will need to look at in the near future as spending round $20K for a new engine installed isnt something everyone is going to want/do.

Good info winaje, and awesome price!

Its known in the motor vehicle wrecking industry that the territory engines are in demand, most prolly dont know why.

Is the TD6 2.7 a doomed engine or is it as reliable as any other engine if maintained correctly , these engine failures on here and the UK Disco 3 site are starting to give me cold feet , I have changed my oil pump as a preventative measure .

I am not sure wether that a lot of problems with vehicles rests with the type of vehicle or the owner , ie I have now had my 17 inch BB6 wheels on my RRS for 3 years now and not had a problem , but others have suffered cracks in their wheels after short use .
There is probably no definitive answer here but thought I would throw it out there for some comments and maybe get some peace of mind that the TD6 is as good a bet as any other all being equal .

Tim, you say you've only have the car for a week. Was it a dealer purchase? Is there a warranty you can use?

Also interested in the dodgy sensor arrangement. Sounding very much like someone has pulled a swifty on you.
    Cheers,

    Sean

Tim - there was also no mention of what year model it was, or how many km were on it. I'm wondering if the 7 year/168,000km service was ever performed?

Yes, dealer purchase - won't say too much more at this point as they are (so far) making helpful sounds. Although it sounds like their inspecting mechanic might be getting some awkward questions asked of him
