2008 Disco 3 replacement engine options / costs

So, spot of bother with the D3 I've had for just over a week. Low coolant alarm - immediately pulled over, turned off and checked. Fluid level ok both hot and cold. What the? Read forums and found sensors are known failure point and easy fix. Ordered new expansion tank, check fluid before driving til it arrives. No issues noted. Pulled out the old one only to find not even hooked up! Instead another float switch is plugged into harness and jammed against radiator!

Alarm bells tolling slowly but no other issues noted so finished replacement, top up and bleed coolant.
Drives fine for 2 days then sudden temperature spike, black smoke and loss of power on freeway. Uh oh....tow to LR specialist. 'We'll check carefully but sounds like engine is cooked!'

So tell me, wise ones, what sort of price range am I looking at to have a replacement TDV6 sourced and installed?

Plenty of info here, have a search as there are a couple of current threads.
You need to find a Ford Territory TDV6.
Until the wreckers work out they are the same engine they sell for half or less the cost of a Disco engine.
There are certain parts you need to swap out, thats all covered in the threads where the Ford mojo has been fitted.
    GOODLUCK!!!!

Sadly, latest report is that at least 2 cylinders failed the pressure test.

    Oh dear!

I hope we learn about the mystery of the hidden sensor and the ultimate failure.

2.7D engine still available here at last look. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/marketplac...ing-perth.html Thanks LandyAndy for telling me.

I was surprised the engines are expensive. Triumproverspares appears to have a lot of wrecked D3/4s

Wondering if they were cylinders 5 & 6?

Ford Territory TDCi engines are selling for roughly half what a TDV6 LR engine is. Often far less kilometres on the Ford engines too.

My mechanic was warning me about cylinders 5 & 6 not getting enough cooling - with motors after ~200,000km. He put the reason down to higher heat at the back two cylinders - caused by gummed up radiators - inside (rust) and out (mud) - and lower coolant flow at the back of the block.

I've not seen any mentions of this as a cause before. The two most common failure modes are:
    1) the oil pump casing cracking-usually after the service where the front/back belts are changed and they use the old designed oil pump; and
    2) big-end caps falling off from a bolt/nut coming loose.

I suggest you look at the posts by Will (winaje) for a source for Territory motors. Good luck!
