I went to the D4 hitch on my D3. A lot better hitch than D3 and you can remove spare. The D4 has ratchet style lock on pin so that it can not come loose. Have towed 3 ton for at least 80000 km with D4 hitch. Suits my needs as I remove hitch if doing off road work. A lot of D3 hitchs came off because of use of sway bars which should not ever be used as it unloads the hitch allowing D3 one to come off.

My main issue with the Mitch Hitch is that it pushes the tongue further rearward, anyone that knows anything about towing knows you want the ball as close to the rear axle as possible.
I'd be chasing a factory D4 receiver and tongue.

The reason D2's are funny to tow big weight with is due to the massive overhang in relation to the wheelbase.
