    Beg/borrow a 19" rim for 3 months

    Hi all,
first time poster, thanks for a great site.

Taking our MY15 D4 and family of 5 on the big trip in July to October and want to carry a second spare tyre. I have Duratracs x 5, and a still-decent OEM Wrangler tyre that I could put on a 6th 19" rim if I had on. Dealer wants >$900 for a new rim

Anyone in the Southern Highlands area or Sydney that may have a spare 19" rim that wants an outback adventure for 3 months? Will return in same condition, with carton of beer placed on top.

I could lend you one with an OEM Wrangler still on it if you are coming through Brisbane or can get it picked up from Brisbane.

    Cheers,

PM me, I might be able to help you out. I have a brand new OEM Wrangler on a 2nd hand SE (i think) rim and I am in Sydney. We might be able to sort something out. Need to be in next few weeks.

You can pick them up on Ebay fairly cheap.

It des raise an interesting thought. Rims and off-road tyres for hire.

Gordon from GOE should have an set of his rims with good strong tyres for rent. You break it, you bought it arrangement. We could all do our trips up north on 18"s and then come home and swap them over.

For me a set of 18s is not just about the $ but the space to store them.

When I win lotto maybe going to buy a complete set up, rims and drawers for the back of a D4 complete with spare wheel winder extension. Stone stomper, Engel. Fit over seat overs, Rhino roof etc. Kit out your D4 for the big trip for a quarter of the price and it gets converted back to a soccer mother shopping trolley afterwards! On the fifth hire I start making money!

Often thought the same... tyres would be tricky cos ppl could thrash them, but strong rims should be loanable, byo tyres

I'm in the Northern beaches of Sydney. You can borrow one of mine if we can arrange to meet half way. Send me a PM.
It's got a Coopers ltz I think. Maybe even new.

    Fascinating proposal.
    Very generous offers.

I've got a D4, I've got it and the family kitted, fueled and accommodated for 3 months, but don't want to stump for a 2nd spare rim.
Why not just buy one second hand, fit your tyre, use it if you need to, then sell it when you return.
It's going to cost you fitting and balancing anyway.
