We do little else but soft sand driving in the west and I've never used a shovel or been snatched or winched in sand in any vehicle. I've used Maxtrax a couple of times but there is no use in bogging yourself that far that you need to shovel your way out. Very easy to take your foot off the accelerator and work out something else that will get you through. You don't just keep spinning your wheels until you are on your belly! That is the first lesson in sand driving.

In addition to all of the above good info, if you have the large screen display, Hi ICE, then select the 4WD screen. Lots of good info, especially which way your front wheels are pointing.

Comes in very handy, and also lets you know what is happening with the articulation.

Once you are in special modes, the steering shows up on the dash too.

Have a set of easy downs set to 25 PSI and I have never had to go below that although happy to if needed (I mostly do Noosa North Shore and Rainbow Beach which is mostly soft entry and exit and fairly hard beach at relatively high speed and the car is safer with the tyres not too low at those speeds, if I was doing a lot of dunes I would definitely go lower) I carry a set of maxtrax, a snatch strap, rated shackles and a shovel. Have used them all, but never on my vehicle only to recover others. ( last week I had to get some young idiot off the beach entry in a 2wd ute with fully inflated tyres ) and I have a good ARB compressor, the easy downs and the compressor just means easy no hassle and fast on and off the beach.

Other than that agree, off-road height, sand mode, DSC off and remember to turn it off again every time you get in the car.

No worries, it's not the best vehicle I have ever driven in the sand but it is perfectly competent and has never got me stuck.
