Why didn't you upgrade to Slotted?
I recently changed pads and discs to swap over to the Akenobo pads. I bought the full set from Pedders as the price was actually about the same as the dealer OEM price. I was happy to pay a bit more for the pads. They offered an exact replacement disc so went the whole set.
The pads have been fantastic.
The discs however are now a rusty unattractive mess.

The previous discs had some sort of grey blotchy coating and looking at almost all near new vehicles the discs have some black coating in the centre section as do newish Discos I see.
Was I just dumb not to realise I needed to prep and paint the centre section or do OEM discs now come with this from the factory? There was no instructions in the box on what to do.
Hope this is a warning to others as would have been no trouble to do this but now a much harder job.

I am always a sceptic about the 'extra features' as have had no problems with standard and not setting fastest lap times. In any case, this video is super interesting and suggests the myth exists to reel in extra dollars from the average punter for unnecessary 'sexy' features. The bit on modern pad technology is interesting which reflects the Akenobo pads.

I feel I have been sold a bit of a pup and also should wear the dunce hat and sit in the corner as obvious raw steel has no chance.
The slotted in a 4wd application has huge benefits in sand, mud and water - pads clear quickly (much quicker) and you get the bite back.
I'm not a fan of cross drilling as quoted in the video, for the very same reasons.
To solve your issue just whip the wheel off, a bit of sand paper, make a "mask" out of cardboard to go over the hub and mask the disc itself and spray some high temp paint.
I just painted some cold galvanising on mine and now look OK

Update: Shot off a note of frustration to Pedders Feedback the same day I posted this thread. Was an Akenobo compliment and disc complaint.
Received a call from WA Manager today stating that their new line of discs is to be electroplated however my email shows the standard OEM version is not. This is now an internal debate as his view is that no disc they sell for this style of vehicle should be unpainted where it is easily seen.
I explained I understand this is only a cosmetic issue and my own fault for not asking /checking or preferably being told.
His call was to offer to bring my car in remove wheels and discs and properly coat (not just high temp paint) and return car to me.

P.S. Put in a plug for getting Akenobo pads for D4 3.0 owners as he said these have been going well and should expect 2-3x lifetime over standard disc/pad combo.
I explained this dilemma to the main man who was looking into it.
