I have run a dedicated cable from my second battery to a fuse block kept under the dash near the pedals. I then use that I use to feed my UHF, one cigarette lighter plug and Tow Pro.

Do it properly. Do it to the battery.
The battery is a huge RF filter so you'll get the best from it.
Also depending on your unit you may need to be wary of current draw.
My unit will pull 12a on transmit. (It's a little bit more commercial)
Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely better than hacking into existing wiring.
A while back I was supposed to take mine up to a mine site near Nullagine. Had the required radio, high-viz flag on its own aerial (even with an illuminated red light on top), magnetic vehicle ID labels etc.
Then at the last moment, they told me that I would have to install an internal roll cage and a cargo barrier (even though everything in the back is securely bolted down or in the drawer system). :censored:
So I told them to shove it where the sun don't shine - and hire me a riceburner.
