They got to sell the old stock of D4 so may as well scare everyone into thinking the D5 won't be any good to use as a tug. The D4 will run out the dealers doors .

I'm not sure I would be too worried just yet.
The article talks about the new motor producing 179 kW and 500 Nm
That is really not that far back from the current SDV6 at 183kW/600Nm particularly when the rumor is that the D5 will also be significantly lighter than its D4 brother.
Makes more sense to me to wait and watch , rather than worrying about stuff that may never eventuate.
As far as I'm aware, the range of motors that will be available in the D5 is not yet public....

Stay calm and take a chill pill. This product has a very long way to go until we get the facts. Take a look around most manufacturers who product any form of AWD or 4WD. They have a range of engines, at least two, to match the variants in the range. Clearly these new engines and the base 2l are base versions and are there to encourage buyers into whatever vehicle it is at the lowest level of that range. This is a well known and proven marketing strategy and has been around since cars were invented. Take a look at why Mercedes now produces; A, B & C class cars with all the variant of the grown up E&S ranges. LandRover has been developing and maturing this strategy since BMW owned them and subsequently Ford.
Given the huge reduction in weight with the new platform and looking at the 500nm number you would look at a power to weight ratio I reckon would offer great efficiency and fuel reductions. When you combine this with the average users duty cycle of school run, shopping, day spa, drinkies and lunch, gym, school run et al then a 2l engine does the job
For those of us who actually want and use the full capabilities of our 3l diesel engines and TRS give me my 3l and 8spd auto so I can tow on and off road and overtake the umpteen b3's and quads we have been dealing with for the last few months. These are not challenges for Europe, the Arab Emirates or the rest of the world I know but we have one of the largest blocks of accessible dirt on the planet so whilst I do really care about the rest of the world I really want the same or better 4WD performance from my next Land Rover
