    TPMS Question

    1. If I bought a D4 which has TPMS and it had 20" rims and I was to purchase 4 GOE 18 " rims for touring and bush, can I purchase the same sensors and put in the 18" rims or do I need to take them out of the 20" rims?
    2. Can the system differentiate between the the wheels?
    3. Does the TPMS system on a D4 able to add two wheels to account for the camper trailer?
    4. If you have the rear entertainment system fitted does it need the remote for full funtionality?

    Any assistance greatly appreciated. As the car I am looking at is located at a Jeep/Nissan dealership they haven't been much help.

    I can't answer your questions other than that you can easily purchase te sensors online (plenty of OE ones on ebay) and that the D4 has the antenna for each sensor behind the wheel arch liner, so very short distance for signal transmission - I am guessing this is so you can put any wheel on any position and get correct sensor location readout. I therefore would not expect it to support trailer TPMS

    I can see no reason why not!!

    I had TPMS sensors on my D3 - 18" wheels with Pirelli Scorpions as well as couple on the camper trailer we towed.

    When I got the D4 I took the sensors off the D3 and put them onto the D4 wheels - 20" alloys with Cooper Zeons and no dramas.

    The sensors are only on the wheels to relay tyre pressure and temperature; it shouldn't matter what size the wheel / tyre is.

    I also bought a couple more so that now I have four sensors to put on each wheel / tyre of our tandem caravan.

    We've just driven from the NSW south coast to Darwin, no probs at all apart from one sensor which is in the habit of 'chewing' batteries. This one's had six replacements (right rear) whereas only one other unit has required a new battery.

    I reckon a TPMS should be one of the first things people should buy, especially if they're doing any off-road work; the electronics in the D3 / D4 / RRS, etc are just too good. We were on the Tanami a couple of years ago (2014) and had a tyre disintegrate, it went flat, got too hot and literally 'exploded' and I had no idea the tyre was even flat because the car's systems compensated.

    So, with tubber at $400 and more a corner a TPMS, I believe, is great insurance.

    No you shouldn't need the remote for full functionality of the entertainment system - so long as you're stopped.

    My kids aren't crash hot on remote operation, so I quite often reach into the back with the remote to start movies playing when moving, because the front screen is disabled.

    I'd be interested to know what a replacement remote would cost!
