    Twin RAIs

As I am looking very much like purchasing A D4 V8 I thought I could just use the Safari Snorkel from my D3. I have recently been told that the V8 draws air from both sides. It got me thinking about 3D printing something in reverse to have a Snorkel each side. Then I found this pic online. Anyone seen this before? A search of Mantec's website has not produced any more info. I will try emailing them. Looks way cool I think. Anyone know if the 3D printing thing would work. I am probably dreaming.

Image is a mirror one, exactly the same both sides including the car you can see in the background.

Best of luck copying and reverse printing the passenger side one.

Hmmm, maybe something out of Stainless with Safari intakes. I have always liked symmetry.

Why do you say that? You can print in ABS with a wall thickness of 3mm and I bet you can't break that. PLA may be too rigid though and crack.

Snorkels are usually made of HDPE...

And yes, I would smash an ABS snorkel...

The LR and Safari ones are made from LLDPE, but anyway, print in HDPE (tricky) or print in something else like PET or Nylon, or even Carbon Fibre reinforced PLA

    Your source for the Snorkels?

LLDPE is very flexible. Usually used for membranes etc.

Safari add Carbon black etc along with other chemicals including some to give UV20 stability.. seems odd that LLDPE would be used when a strong flexible structure is desired..

Either way - I'd print a mould and lay up Carbon rather than try to print it...

I have looked at this a fair bit and think the best thing to do with the V8 is to install a single 3.0l airbox and run the snorkel to that. The 3.0l has twin outlets to the turbos and uses the same MAF sensors. you would need to change the intake manifold ducting to the air filter.

If you just want to protect the engine in water crossings you could run a single snorkel on the RHS and close off the LHS air intake when doing a crossing.

It has been on my radar but since I mostly drive in the city and have yet to come across a crossing over 500mm It hasn't moved up the list.
