    Brake lights or switch

I've got a 2005 TDV6. I replaced the brake globes with LEDs some years ago, but haven't been happy with their light output. It's hard to tell when the brakes are applied if the parkers are on during the day, (like when I'm towing).

So I bought some better LEDs and fitted them to the brake lights.

As soon as I tried to drive off with lights on and then hit the brakes I got the complete catastrophe. Trans fault, suspension drop, handbrake problem, etc.

So I cleared the 15 assorted errors, replaced the globes with old incandescent ones, (I'd thrown the old LEDs out) and now no more errors.

However, I now get a click from the transmission interlock when ever I hit the brake.

The original brake switch was replaced about 3 years ago.

What was wrong with these new LEDs (canbus?)

Should I replace the brake switch again for good measure.

Should I try again with some other LEDs or get new original globes.

    Regards

Why not replace the rear lights with some D4 ones?

Think of it as achieving your goal bit by bit.
