Thread: Single Rear Drawer D4

    Single Rear Drawer D4

Ok I have seen all the options available and I think it was Dave's who had a single cage set up for his fridge. Everyone else seems to have dual rear drawer set ups.

I want to retain one of the third row seats so I only want a single rear drawer and fridge slide on top.

What I need to know is the mounting for the base ❓
I can see that I can use two of the tie down points to bolt the base to on one side but then what for the middle. ❓

I had a look at the seat it has a bit of a lip on the backing which is the floor when folded down, this seems to be metal, and the lip which is right on the edge can be drilled so I can bolt the base to, that solves the problem of not having tie down points in the middle of the cargo area.

Question, would the metal backing of the third row seat be strong enough to hold down the base for a rear drawer set up ❓

I didn't like David's idea of using a strap though it suits his cage set up well.

Any ideas would be appreciated, cheers

I actually have two slides, one above the other, on only one side, so the second seat can be used.

I use cam straps that are hooked onto the struts of the folded seat, and then onto the eyelets, and they have worked well on some really rough terrain. Positioning-wise, you can see how they look in my Gallery, but unfortunately I don't have any with the other seat up.

I designed and had made a one piece sliding unit that is secured using the current tie down bolts and can easily be removed in minutes with two people holding either side. Works perfectly and can be left in and used every day as it offers a huge amount of functionality. As well it acts as your fridge slide and all you need are tie downs.

That's a great idea Rob. Looks like it works well.
I like the idea your whole cargo slides out.

Unfortunately doesn't solve my single drawer dilemma.

What do you guys think of using a rearmost seat while there is a fridge tied down next to it? Safety wise, is this OK?

Reason I am asking is that we have another child due soon. I have a 50L fridge which sits on one side of the cargo bay tied down with heavy duty straps, and usually behind a cargo barrier. I was thinking of leaving it there, removing the cargo barrier and putting a booster seat for my 6 year old in the seat next to it. I would never do this for a long trip, just for round town, dropping the kids off at school, etc.

Thought it might be relevant to this thread.

Lucas thanks for your input and yes very relevant to this thread.

With 4 kids I have no option but to use the 3rd row seat.

This is why I'm searching for a suitable way to secure a single rear drawer base to the middle section.

I plan on having a drawer built with a side wall to separate the passenger and secure the fridge to, see diagram.

I plan on padding the side wall with a dense foam like those gym mats (not the ones you buy off the shelf, they're too thin) and putting a double layer if it allows. This should provide some comfort or protection for the rear passenger.

A quick diagram drawn on my phone in Notes

Sorry, forgot that I can actually link to it.

That's solid as I said, but can be a pain to put on and remove, hence the space to the left of the drawers.

Comes up fine with Chrome on the PC and Safari on iPad, so must be Forumrunner. Perhaps larger photos don't show.
