Cheers mate . That makes me feel better .
Is there anything we can do to reduce the amount of the smoke ?

You need to get somebody to drive your vehicle and you drive behind to see whats going on.It may not be smoke at all,ie condensation.

At night looking in the dimmed rear view mirror I can see exhaust gasses of some desciption, but of a daytime there is nothing visible coming from my D4.
I put it down to the dimmed mirror and the way the car behind's headlight light is distorted through the higher temperature gasses more than actual soot/smoke.
I have followed my D4 being driven with some spirited acceleration, and there is only the slightest puff, which dissipates well before it would come into view of the rear view mirror.
They soot up big time,as can be expected from any highly strung diesel.
Put your foot down. Bugger the environmentals, their agenda has been proven wrong anyway.
