In my experience, if it's red, and it's got a few years, then you're ****ed.
    No matter what you use.

Thinking further, I would clay bar the whole car after a wash to get all contaminants out, then polish. Then you should put on a protective wax.

    Autoglym Polish question.

Wash with dishwasher liquid. Removes grease. Then clay the whole car using dishwasher liquid and water as the lube. Polish by hand but you may need to machine polish it to get some warmth in the polish to have it perform properly. Don't use a wool pad but a medium foam pad. Then seal it with a polymer sealer. Then wax if you really feel the need but after a good sealer it won't be needed.

Yep the sun is the curse of red cars, ditto dark colours and clear coats.

Having tackled similar problems on the motley collection of not so classic cars in times past, the following is my workflow for less than optimal paint surfaces including clear coats

    1. Give the car a good wash. High pressure hose first, then bucket wash using a car wash detergent, rinse down with hose at low pressure. Chamois dry.
    2. Clay bar the top surfaces, use the clay with one of the detailer sprays. Rinse and dry.
    3. If the paint is oxidised or hazy then use a very light cutting polish, the autoglym product above or Maguires Scratch X2.0 are what I use.
    4. Rinse and dry again.
    5. Finish with a good polish. Autoglym super resin in my product of choice ATM.
    6. If you are super anal, finish with a sealant coat like Autoglym extra gloss protection.

    Cheers
    Steve

My go to product once cut (I use Menzerna to cut, remove swirls etc) is Klasse All in One. Leaves a glass like finish and lasts. And, looks great on red. I would then seal with Klasse High Gloss Sealent - two coats. Goes on easy, comes off easy.

Make sure you have plenty of clean 100% cotton cloths or better to remove the sealer is microfibres.

If you've never used a quality AIO like Klasse or Zaino, be prepared to be amazed Autoglym Polish question.

I could go on and on. Good luck and keen to see the results

I am a bit biased, my late father in law used to be the sole importer of it. It is really good stuff but you need to make sure you use the right product for the right job.
They make a few different grades from paint renovator (cutting polish) through the super resin polish, another finer one and then you get the instant show shine ( like Mr Sheen ).
Try the super resin polish first, it has a red label and depending how much rubbing and pressure you use will determine how agressive it will be. Use something like cheese cloth, not t shirt or toweling or all you'll be doing is buffing out the old and rubbing in new scratches.

Bigger job than I imagined, not sure its going to be that flash,a test patch on the bonnet didn't look that good.
I gave it a thorough wash,clay-bared the whole car and have put Autoglym on,I double coated the roof/bonnet/tops of gaurds.Havent polished it off yet, hoping the paint will soak it up some.Done the glass with rainex and the interior with leather cleaner.Ready for a beer, will soldier on!!!!!
I have some Zaino for the D4,may try some when I'm done if it looks OK.If I think it needs a buff I wont waste it.

If the autoglym didnt do the job, get the paint renovator then after you've done that the super resin polish should bring it up to a near mirror finish.

Renovator or cutting compound is like ultra fine sand paper. The clay bar will get out contaminants but abrasives are there to smooth the surface. You could go to 1500 grit but that's pretty extreme.
