I've got to say that it is unbelievably crazy that there is not somewhere that auxilliary switches can be (easilly) fitted on D3 or D4 vehicles.
I know they have to have "the look" in the dash area, but surely a small area with nothing behind it could be designed for those of us who want to put in an extra switch or 2.
After all, they are an off road vehicle, and people will want to make their own changes to them to suit their needs.
I've spent quite some time at Triumph Rover spares here in SA looking at Discovery wrecks and trying to figure out mounting places for switches, based on what is behind the various panels and trim on the dash.
I can't say I am too much wiser for locations.
Mind you, I do come away from there with a slow down message in my brain based on the roll over damage to so many vehicles.
Everyone with a 4x4 should wander around a wrecking yard to get an idea of their individual vulnerablity!!!!
My 2 switches I am adding are going here - one for Fyrlyts and one for the other thing I'm working on. Plenty of space behind this panelhttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/im...017/08/168.jpg
How does one get behind it? I thought it's quite a task to get in behind there.
And for the D3 at least that's where the factory spot light switch goes for those unaware
Where are the screws?
Sorry, only 2 needed to get to that part.
Take off (its just clipped on) the cover plastic that sits in front of the radio/touchscreen - undo the 2 torx screws, remove radio controls/clock.
Start pulling the RH trim off - it just clips in.
It's a bit awkward with the indicator stalk and steering column, but it comes out and does go back in with patience https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/im...017/08/216.jpg
Not just USB charger outlets, voltmeters for cranking and aux battery [emoji1362]https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/im...017/08/215.jpg
A brave man drills whopping big holes in his dash/console. I must admit, didn't even notice them there until pointed out!
