Could be just (!) a dodgy injector or two. Any coolant loss at all?
Peculiar....I went out to the Disco this arvo to retrieve some stuff and I thought 'bugger it, I'll start her up'. Well she won't start...Tried to fire, a puff of white smoke which smelt very unburnt diesel-ish.....I think I know what's coming....
. Hopefully Scott and I can shed some light on Monday.

Another cheap check, especially if it was recently serviced, make sure the diesel filter is tight,if air gets in the system it wont run.
GOODLUCK

I've got to unfortunately say that the symptoms and sounds you describe are basically identical to what I experienced when my higher KM motor died from a suspected big end bearing failure.
Hope you find it's something simple.

Hi all,
Not confirmed but all fingers thus far pointing to the HPFP.....
Ralph
It seems the HPFP is over pressuring ...a lot! In the order of 4-5 times.
Not a common failure but it does happened I'm told.
That would account for the tinny/pinging/rattle just before it faulted into limp mode.
Anyways, not cheap and I hope there is no lasting effects or damage.
According to MR, it would appear it's the original pump as well so at 220k, it probably did ok, given their history!
Now to raid the piggy bank.
Ralph
You say it is a 06 - if a 07MY (mid 06 to mid07) then it should have had a recall done back in about 2009/10 to replace the pump.
I think you need to check whether your vehicle was on the recall list - may or may not mitigate costs.
