Roof racks needed but no tracks

    Gday Fellas,

Wanting to fit a set of racks, Rhino Aero, but the D3 still has the cover thats held on with plugs. Do I just go with the kit that Rhino make, I can get the whole lot for $535. The genuine tracks are $950 alone! They look pretty simple to fit using the existing threaded holes plus a couple of rivets. What have others done?

    Cheers

Rhino Tracks. Very easy to fit and you hardly notice them.

Plenty of people including myself have the Rhino tracks fitted. There is both short and long versions.
There are also aftermarket copies of the factory tracks on eBay but I have read mixed comments about quality of fit.

People have also mixed factory tracks with Rhino crossbars and/or platform roof racks but this requires sourcing the channel nuts yourself etc.

I went with Rhino to have easy flexibility of fitment between crossbars and platform rack.

Also some good info in these older threads:

Just a question. I might not have read properly but dont some racks/crossbars bolt straight into the covered holes in the roof? If so then are tracks necessary? I can see that tracks would give you flexibility in the distance between the cross bars, but is it really necessary?

    True.
The rail will also spread the load so something to consider if the maximum load is to be used. Also you are limited to the number of crossbars direct fixing.

I visited the "Roof Rack Superstore" last week. They warned against the ebay rails and showed me their track sample.$209 for the 3/4 length.I believe they were Rhino as I also priced a backbone.

I fit Vortex Trackmount 2 bar Rhino Racks on the weekend if you have any questions. Fairly easy to fit, although had to go to bunnings to get cold galv and mastic.

Like Scott, I fitted Rhino tracks to my D3 myself many years ago. They did a lot of km both on and off road with both Rhino Aero bars and a loaded up Rhino platform and awning with no issues at all. Just pay attention to the fitting instructions and weather proofing and they will perform very well.
