G'day Graeme, no idea on the box. 260k and it has the metal pan so assuming it has at least been done once...

$4500 for ZF in Sydney to do a full refurb. If I hadn't found a low km box with TC like I did, I would have gone the rebuild option.

    Is that 4.5k all inclusive?

Just drained out 5 l of tranny oil, had been done relatively recently. No shavings and oil pretty clear, looks like it's the TC.

Plus removal and refit $1000-1500. The $4500 incl tranny oil.

What's it doing? My trannys internals were ok but the output shaft and TC input gear wore away as no lubrication applied. Here's a pic.

The ZF rebuild cost includes a new (not remanufactured) torque converter - well mine did 2 years ago.

Assuming fault codes have been stored, what do they suggest?

    Yeah know...

So there is a metallic scraping sound never present on load. It always goes away when the accelerator pedal goes down. It happens intermittently at idle or when I release the accelerator to slow down. It is present intermittently in reverse and drive, not in park or neutral, sports mode the same. If I turn the car off and back on, it's gone, but inevitably returns. Sometimes it will run fine around town for 15-20 mins and then it rears its ugly head again only to go away for another 10 mins repeat.

I have no issue with gears slipping, shudder etc. Car drives well and is smooth.

I have sprayed all the belts, changed the alternator (which needed to be changed anyway), checked the vacuum hoses and changed out the diff oils.

I am presently in the middle of doing two tranny flushes. Oil looks ok - no frags.
