Red face Tailgate switch Discovery 4

Does anybody have the problem that the switch does not work? would it be electrical or do I need a new switch.

When I had this problem it turned out to be corrosion of the wires just before the switch. Took the whole handle off the tailgate and (there is a plug for the wires behind it) and soldered it up on the bench. The micro switch was ok but the break was very close to it.

Edit: the insulation hid the break in the wire and only became apprarant after I did a continuinty test

Are you referring to the square button which you press to open the lower tailgate?
