Hi Transtar, just wondering why you want a metal pan?

Reason for metal sump enquiry is ease for servicing yourself and not having to buy plastic sump with integral filter every time you service trans. I do not agree with filled for life philosophy of Landrover and wish to change oil and filter every 50000km to prolong life of transmission.

There is nothing in the LR service schedule about being filled (sealed) for life - now while the LR service interval is too long, no where do they advocate sealed for life - a myth.

Hi Transtar, I agree completely with the 50Mm oil changes, have done it with my vehicle.
If a steel pan option is available then I presume that the filter is also available as a replacement element. So the savings will be the difference between the plastic pan with integrated filter Vs the steel pan filter, which is likely to be a unique part. Given economies of scale of production, I suspect it might not be all that much cheaper.
There is a thread in the auto trans sticky from a guy in the UK who did a 8 speed oil change write up. Process was quite straight forward, however in the article he put the position that it was not necessary to change the pan/filter but just the oil. Would be worth a read

    Regards

What does the actual Aussie service schedule say?

    It will look like this
    http://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/al...rom%20MY10.pdf

This has the gearbox oil change interval of 144,000 miles with a note -The maintenance items listed, are those recommended for vehicles operating under normal driving, road and climatic conditions. More frequent attention may be necessary if the vehicle is subject tostop/start operation, extremes of temperature, dusty conditions, off road driving or frequent towing of trailers.

I am sure the Aussie schedule will be similar but may be a little different in some areas.

I had my MY14 D4 serviced at 76,000km last month, including a trans oil change specified by myself. There was no steel pan conversion available so had to replace the plastic sump.

Can not lay my hands on the document at this time but I recall it to be 100,000km but reduced for arduous service.
There is a line in the 6 speed auto owners manual Maintenance/Capacities that refers to sealed for life as the capacity of the auto.

By the way, I found a pdf of that oil change procedure, included below.
