    Post Discovery 3 Dash Brightness

I have a 2009 Discovery 3 SE and during day driving I find it very hard to see the speedometer. I turn on the lights to invoke the dimmer but it does not improve. Is there an upgrade or trick expose the speedo numbers?

Also remember that when you turn on the leadlamps the dash lamps dim - they are brighter with the headlamps off - maybe you have a fault that keeps the dash lamps dim even though the headlamps are off.

But as Tombie has said - glasses or take take the sunglasses off

On my 2014 D4 there is a dash brightness control, which is a small scroll wheel in with the headlight switch binnacle.
Not sure if D3s have this or similar.

The dimmer scroll only works when the headlamps are on - does not change the brightness of the dash lamps when headlamps are off. The brightness of the dash lamps when the headlamps are off is at least twice as bright as the brightest setting when the headlamps are on.

I just went out and had a look at my instruments - seriously if the OP has a problem reading the speedo there is a problem with the OP and not the speedo .

My wife and I have the same problem and our eyes are okay. I will check the instruments and see what I find.

Even without the back lighting, during the day the speedo is bright enough with its white needle and white writing on the black background. The backlighting in the day is really for illuminating the LCD displays.

I take it that if you have trouble reading the speedo you have also have trouble with the Tacho, Temp Gauge and Fuel Gauge as these are also white numbers and needles on a black background and dont need backlighting during the day.

    Good luck with it.

X2. If you can't see it during the day then I don't think any amount of backlighting will help.

Hmmm. I wonder if what he's talking about is that odometer display on his vehicle is buggered?
    Go gentle on the newbie.
