    Bridgestone D674 MTs

Anyone have any experience with the D674s on the D3/D4, we were impressed with how they went on the Amarok over the Xmas break in the High Country, they were especially good on Jeep Twins Track over to Selwyn from Hotham and the on road grip for a MT was very good.
    Cheers Baz.

I thought our young bloke was going to fit Bridgestones to his Amarok when he got his new wheels (more likely the 697's though). But he surprised me and copied his old man by going with MT STZ's.

If he gets as good a run out of these as I have, he will be happy.
    Cheers .........

Problem is Baz they weren't making it in the 265/60-18 size so not many have even considered it.

What suprised me was how quiet they are, although muds on the Amarok are quiet, the previous KM2s were also, quieter than they were on the D4

We have the Hankook Dynapro's 265/60 on the 18s

We didn't get a good run from the D697s everyone else seemed to get.

Anyway we have gone with the D674s AND we have also found a place that will do a proper wheel allignment on the D4 and Amarok for that matter, seems tyhe other mob had no idea about tight tollerence mode, even though the said they did
    Cheers Baz.

We went a bit conservative on the D4 with 245/70/17, I was thinking 265/70/17, but the 245s were OK last time, and we have that size on the camper, which is the same rolling diameter as the 265/60/18, which is good as we can use either as an emergency spare on the car or camper.

The Rok has 245/75/16 with the D674s.

They seem very quiet on the D4 THE short time I drove on them, these are for offroad tyres only and will be our tyre for the big trip in July.

Just got to figure out why our economy has gone way up and have lost power, first thought was a failing EGR or EGR sensor, 14l/100ks not towing is not good
    Cheers Baz.

We've got a few work utes with the bridge 674 MT's on. They seem to resist chipping better then the D697 - but that could also be down to the ford ranger with the 674's has traction control whereas the hilux doesn't. They do get very noisey on the hilux's once they start to where a little

Was just looking at the 674's on our work ranger - its had them on since new, a massive total so far of only 7800km. Was suprised to see compared to the untouched spare that they are half worn already. At this rate I dont think they will see 20,000km. This particular vehicle dosent see a bitumen road (not registered) and max 60km/h on our roads. Rears are chipping a bit but the fronts are not too bad - still a similar tread depth on them

Compressive set is the biggest initial "wear" factor on a tyre especially a block tread type.

Initially they compress and harden often dropping a mm or two and then start to wear.

This often shows up as a slowing in wear rate as they age..

Happens to most all brands but more noticeable on the softer/grippier compounds.

That is also why I laugh when people brag on getting such long life from a tyre - if it meets your needs ok - but a long life tyre has reduced grip, reduced traction on bad surfaces and often chip more.. the trade off of a rubber compound... a longer life tyre has more Carbon in it, is harder and has (all being equal) less grip and traction especially when wet.
