    IIDTools Live Values

I'm embarking on another outback trip and have always carried the IIDTool with me but I've never used it to read live values. So I was wondering what people have set on theirs to monitor potential problem areas. I'm not sure how many values you can display at one time on a screen but I use a 10" tablet.

You can set a max of 8 values to display - my pick would be gearbox and engine temperatures, possibly battery voltage. Others might have other useful ones they like to see, although I think the more you have, the harder it is to keep an eye on individual figures.

I like coolant temp, engine oil temp, transmission temp, manifold pressure, EGT bank1 and EGT bank2 mainly, especially when towing. It is enlightening to see how hot everything gets and how much hotter it is when towing than when not towing. I would hate to see what is happening towing 3.5t. Mine trailer is only a compact Kimberley Karavan with an ATM of 2200kg.

I doubt that any of these would be useful to help prevent a failure. They are just interesting for us nerdy people. However, tranny oil temps of around 100 degrees when towing as I saw is an instant alert that you need to change the oil frequently, probably once per year and much less than 50,000km I reckon.

My engine oil was also at 125 continuously, which is also high for oil longevity. Coolant was up to 110 degrees up hills, which doesn't even change the temp gauge from its mid height position, so you really can't tell what is going on by looking at your gauges.

As Grentarc said Engine coolant temp, Gearbox oil temp, Supply voltage
plus when towing I also watch Gear commanded, Engine torque, to see how hard the car is working and assess whether to manually influence gear selection.

I agree with what previous posters are monitoring & I have watched these values since my car was new. While the various values are of little use at present, if they were to deviate from their current norms, I would be doing something about it hopefully before something serious happens. If only we could monitor more than 8 at a time.
