Good luck with your "issue", it is never a pleasant experience to come to an "unexpected stop", so hope you have a quick resolution.

						Hi all,
After many years of Land Rover ownership, it looks as if my D4 has packed it in.
It is currently at the dealers who are going to look at it on Monday. So, how did it happen?
Holidaying on the Sunshine Coast and we were driving, not towing, to SeaWorld. Doing 100ks near Springwood and from nowhere, -drrrrrrr- (hard to produce the sound in writing). Took less than half a second, then the engine stopped, battery light on, and we coasted in to the far left lane. No warnings whatsoever and before this it was driving fine.
I let it sit for a minute while panic kicked in then tried to start it. Starter kicked in and sounded like it just spun up, like it didn't engage, but it was hard to hear over the noise of the traffic. Fairly certain the engine didn't move and didn't try again after that.
I've owned a Disco 2, Range Rover L322 v8, and we currently own a 2011 SD4 HSE FL2, and of course the D4 3.0 HSE.
The D2 and RR used to be serviced by LR specialists but the FL2 and D4 are serviced at dealers. The D4 was purchased from a dealer.
It has 187k on the clock and has been serviced better than the schedule, that is, always under 1 year and always under the recommended k's. When towing, it's been serviced at half intervals as per requirements.
As soon as I hear back from the dealer I'll approach LR and ask them for some assistance.
In a panicked state I posted elsewhere and I have to say that I was absolutely delighted to get responses of offers for a place to stay and a car to use from people I've never met and never spoken to on the forum. People have also taken time out of their day to call people they know to get some more detail on known issues etc. So to you, you know who you all are, I say a massive thanks.

SubscriberThis is awful news, very sorry to hear. I expect also very expensive news as well. You have me slightly freaked out now owning a similar age 3.0 with 230k on the clock. The symptoms sound like a big end failure like 2.7's have, which I thought the 3.0 was immune from. Please keep us up to date with the findings, and wishing you the best of luck.

Mate what an absolute bugger. Hope you are able to get it sorted without have to foot the bill yourself.

Timing belts done? it may have let go...
We have had (tough wood) 210k of faultless driving from new (ok, compressor and aircon pump replaced all under warranty ...and DVD which the kids managed to drop coins in to...but they replaced that to!) - Timing belt done at 180k.
Good luck - dealer may help out if all servicing etc through them.
