Thread: D4 Bluetooth Phone into D3

I have been asking a few different questions on different threads relating to this so thought I would start mu own dedicated thread. If my sanity prevails I may do a write up on what I have done.

I have an 09 D3 SE with no screen, no bluetooth phone and a high line stero. I wanted to add the bluetooth hands free phone as this is a major function that this otherwise beautiful car has never had (I couldn't afford the $5,000 to install it at time of purchase!).

Having researched the Pommie forum and having received great help from Cambo351 I bought some bits and got the hammer out. I needed to buy;

- RHS Steering wheel switches ($45 used)
- microphone ($35 new)
- D4 bluetooth module 8H22 10F845 AA ($260 used from US)
- MOST cable and female connector ($50 from the only shop in Adelaide that stocked it and had 2x 1m lengths!!!)
- 2x male MOST connectors (free from wreckers)
- 1x power plug for bluetooth module (free from wreckers)


My car did not have a power plug in the rear drivers quarter panel for the module nor was there any MOST cable back there (that would have been too easy!!). I did eventually find a plug glued to the back of the headlining just to the left of the drivers sunvisor that I assumed was a microphone plug - win or so I thought....

Given the length of MOST cable I could buy I could not install the module in the factory location in the boot area. I looked at putting it under the driver's seat with the amp but there is just not enough room. I therefore devided to do what the Pommies recommend and put it behind the centre console just down to the right of the passenger's feet. Tucks up there OK.

Power was taken from fuse 58 in the passenger compartment fuse box using one of those piggy back adaptors. Connects to pin 31 on the module plug. Earth from pin 14 (?) on module plug to a bolt directly infront of passenger's feet. All tested and tickadeeboo.

Pulling all the various bits of console plastic off is a littel scary but I did it with no broken bits.

Used my new Nanocom Evo to update the CCF and was a happy as a pig in it. Until........

Could not get a bluetooth signal to show on my phone. In the CCF there are several cellular phone bluetooth options. I tried each in turn but never a bluetooth signal. When I press the telephone button on the dash or use the green steering wheel button the radio says NO PHONE CONNECTED. Does this mean it doesn't think the phone is in the (non-existant) cradle or that a phone system is not installed? How do I know the CCF did update correctly?

I looked at the fault codes and saw that a microphone fault existed. I tested the continuity between the microphone plug and the back of the head unit (small plug pins 2 & 4) but nothing. These cars are known for microphone wiring issues so rather than mess about seeing if I even had the right plug above the headlining I made up a new microphone cable from the interior lights down to the back of the head unit. Fault code gone, job jobbed.

I was starting to get happy again thinking that maybe the system turns off the bluetooth if there is a microphone fault......Nothing. Nada. Ziltch. Sweat stuff all......

I currently have a mustang that needs the charging system checked, a D2 that needs a new ACE hose, a trans flush and 2x sunroof fixes and a competition gearbox that needs to be taken from 274 individual pieces back to a workable unit and an Audi A4 that is having starting issues. I don't have time for this bluetooth rubbish!!!! Ahhhhh. [Rant over]

I have used Cambo351 to death although he has been super helpful in getting me this far. I just do not know where to turn from here. I may have to go down to Triumph Rover Spares and buy another module to test if the one I bought from the US is broken (even though they are swearing blind to me that it worked). There are no differences between US bluetooth and Oz bluetooth are there?

When resetting the CCF;
Flash Programming
Open File
find the INFO.ENC file
Start
Reset ignition twice (assume this is turn all teh way off then back to ignition lights on twice)


I read somewhere in a Nanocom doncument that you then have to sync the CCF to the BCM and PCM. I did that just for a laugh and after making my car do some strange things (and throwing up 215 fault codes) it made no difference.

As far as CCF phone related changes go, I have tried;

Cellular Phone docking station with bluetooth
Bluetooth cellular module (no docking station)
Bluetooth cellular module (no docking station) with telematics

I have also retrieved the CCF FROM the car and used the Nanocom Genesis software to check it. The new codes had loaded.

3 days with nothing then hey presto it works.....thanks for the help......my fingers are crossed!
