I believe you can get one out of a Ford Territory for much less than you would expect to pay for a genuine Land Rover 2.7 diesel - either new or second hand.
    Cheers .........

I would PM some of the guys on here who've been through it:

I think they all had Territory engines installed.

Can be done, but need to change over a few things, biggest problem is at registry, make sure the wrecker receipt doesn't say ford motor and then they will know it back as you are changing O.E vehicle specs and they will want engineering certificate.
As you are fitting a "Ford motor" into a Land Rover in their beaucratic eyes even though they are the smae motor.

Id be warned if buying a diesel motor in or from a car that has been rolled be carefull for several reasons.
If the motor was still running when on its side or roof which a diesel will run till there is no fuel left = stuffed bearings & crank
If the car was on its side or roof for any time and the oil had seeped in to the pots you have hydraulic situation = bent rods valves ect
Now i now this all depends if the inhibitor switch was tripped so the motor was cut at impact

It would be worth chasing a whole Territory and parting it to help cover the costs.

    Re replacement 2.7

Don't bother with a recon, just hunt down a low K Territory motor.
Have had the Territory transplant done and it works fine and you also get low K upgraded turbo, and low K injectors (which you don't get with $7000 "recon"), so anything under $5k for up to 40K kilometers motor is good value.
HEED other advice on how the motor came to be "used", as in rollovers or taking a bath, but generally you can either source a good motor from reliable wrecker, or go through salvage auctions.
