    MY13 smoke Turbo drain

I took my my13 HSE to have its 4 year service yesterday to a specialist Land Rover mechanic. He advised that my car was blowing smoke and needed the Turbo Drain modification recommended by Land Rover and said it would cost $700. He also said that if I had of complained about it while in warranty they would have completed the fix at no charge. It feels wrong that Land Rover have acknowledged a problem, produced a fix and I have to pay $700 for the privileged.
Has anybody else experience this or can offer any suggestions.

    Regards
    Mark

Is it a bluish-grey smoke? I had this problem on my 2010RRS a few years ago and it was fixed under warranty at the time. (They replaced the turbo drain pipe, and even that didn't fix it, so they eventually sent a brand new engine out from England.)

I would have thought that as it was a design fault in the beginning, rather than a part failure, LR would be obliged to cover the cost. Put some pressure on them.

I can't be certain but did think this issue was corrected well before MY13. May be worth looking into the TSB details to see what VIN range actually applied.

Thanks Scott. The technical bulletin covers my Vehicle. It seems it occurred from 2010 to part way through 2013. On a VIN check my vehicle required the fix.

When I had my D4 I did the upgrade myself. The parts cost was less than the fuel cost for at least 2 trips to the dealer, the first for them to confirm that the smoke existed, which it would not have by the time I travelled to the dealer, then another trip to have it fitted, assuming the dealer confirmed the problem and that LR approved the fix under warranty. It wasn't a quick job and I didn't appreciate getting my eyes full of dirt but I didn't have to argue and it took about the same time for a 1-way trip to the dealer.

Graeme, where did you get the parts from and how much did they cost, if you don't mind sharing?

I have had the same problem since new, but it seems to have increased since I last changed my oil, but I can't see how that would have made a difference? Like you it's a long way to get it fixed, though I'm about to do the trip anyways to get the belts done.

IIRC the parts cost around $130 from MLR whenever it was that I did it. If having the body off to get to the rear belt then obviously get the turbo drain done at the same time.
