Thread: D4 door switches / vehicle wake up bypass?

Tailgate is served by a different logic as the body computer will allow height changes with the tailgate open but not the doors.
As far as killing the battery is concerned, I dont reckon the dealers know anything either as 4 out of 5 D4's I looked at when buying had low battery warnings current when the car woke up.

Solution is to buy a 60w solar panel and reg or a solar blanket and connect it to the car.

I don't think mine will make height adjustments with the tailgate open.

Solar panel won't help when making daily camp stops, ie at night 😉😉

I had a look at the manual (an older version admittedly- I'll check the later one later) and the door ajar switch is incorporated into the door latch mechanism. There probably is a way you could bypass it but may not be simple. It says a ground is disconnected from the central junction box when it senses the door being open.
Mine will definitely do a vehicle initiated height change with the tailgate open. Not sure about driver initiated.

Cheers David, no worries. It seems the easiest workaround appears to be just leaving one or more doors slightly ajar, on the first latch not fully closed. This is enough to keep the vehicle asleep and also keep the visitors out 😊.

Need to check if this keeps the puddle lights on though....

You could tap into the wiring to fit a switch to connect all 4 door ajar wires to ground, with diodes to keep the signals isolated when the switch is off. Alternatively just tap into 1 door's wire and only use that door.

'Camping mode' (deactivating the lights) should keep the puddle lamps off...

Just to answer the opening question as I had the same question and found this thread, I was trying to test my door lock mechanism with all the door internals removed from the door and plugged back in on the outside of the door. The car wont try and lock itself if the door is detected as open.

There is a micro switch in the door latch mechanism, the slotted plate that hold the door closed, that you can rotate by hand or screwdriver as if you are the bar attached to the car body, as if closing the door.

There are 2 latched positions that the rotating plate will stay at, it needs to be in the 2nd furthest to be regarded as closed.

By doing this i was able to get the car to lock itself with the door open.
